ThanksKitchen

The Girl, originally uploaded by lf979883.

Hey party people,
The Kitchen went good this week - Thanksgiving kicked my ass, most delicious dinner and the stuffing was delectable in particular. I ate the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and gravy three meals straight! Wild. No one came to visit me this week :-( because everyone's home for break. I don't live far from Albany so the trip was alright. I've got so o o o o much work to do though - The end of the semester is fast approaching! I tried going to the library after the show but the library was CLOSED. Then my laptop battery died. Then my cell phone battery died. Then I lost my hat. Then I found my hat! Whoa. This week is looking like it's going to be a tough one. I'll perservere and see it through - I know I made it through this six times in the past. Still, though, I feel like I'm in trouble. We'll see ?

Such a baller playlist this week. I might have to revisit some of it next week! (Leftovers??) HAHA

SCHEPISISHNESS

What's up Albany? (HAHA),
Friday's edition of the Kitchen was spectacular. This was because in addition to the fact that I had a great round of tracks lined up, I was paid a visit from Engineer, Production Director, all-around polymath of WCDB, "DJ And-a-half" AKA Joe Schepis. He came through for the 30th anniversary celebration, but as opportunities aligned decided to come by one more time this semester to improve the station a bit and co-host programs with myself (8p-10p) and the Insufflator afterward (10p-12a). So, in between fixing our phone unit which was severely out of phase, dude gave me some tracks to play and co-hosted my show, helping make this maybe my favorite show of the semester. Thanks Joe! Two and a half DJs are better than one.

The fire alarm went off earlier in the day and Joe, Jared, Austin and I stood outside for maybe 20 minutes while I was holding out on letting everyone know we could just go inside whenever we wanted

We went over to Eastman tower before the show to take a look at the heart of the station, the transmitter, processor and exciter:

Joe took this one... Had to include it, I love pictures of elevator control panels

There was a lightbulb drive goin on goin on, what's with that exactly?

Joe looks a little David Byrne ca. "Feelings"- era here I think, so I had to spin some Heads:

We went through a few old playlists of mine... You know you've got a lot on your head when you write what you'll be doing after the show, on the playlist CD:

I'm going back and forth over whether I'll do my show next week... I mean, it WILL BE the day after Thanksgiving... Maybe I'll bring some schoolwork to the station and do some, then go on at 8. We'll see. I probably will. See you next Friday!
THANKS AGAIN JOE YOU DA MAN FO REAL REAL

Live with the Vice

\

'Sup Albany. It's been more than a minute since my last real, regular show-plus-crazy night type post. A lot's been going on both at the station and in my life. The schedule went 24 hours a few days ago, and for that I'm immensely proud of both myself and all my fellow DJs who worked to make it possible. From the 10p-12a people who don't go to meetings, to the 4a-7a footsoldiers who care about the station more than oxygen. I have always felt like I was part of a community at WCDB, but now it's feeling more like a family. I'm really getting worked hard by my classes, and while I'm doing well I don't really know what I want to do with myself after I graduate. We'll see. I'm about to turn 21, and while I'm definitely looking forward to it I'm also a little scared. It's OK though - now I can buy mad liquor.

What the hell was I doing on the radio tonight?

Fixing my hair?

Matt Kleinman was there, catch him on WCDB for the Space Jamz Sundays 8-10p

Jaime stopped by!

Matt's on before me, a very interesting character indeed.

Maybe not as interesting as the character on AFTER me though... THE INSUFFLATOR

"Fuckin' Jersey!"

Jaime then drove me downtown, as Chris had a quarter keg of Yuengling (???!!!)

And I took photos off his porch....

Then my mainest man Andrew (Saturdays 8-10 on the station) bought me a slice of happiness for my birthday. What a dude !

Caught a bus back to campus, and now I'm about to chill in the Campus Center and sleep! Wow! Yeah.
Later!
Leon

PS check my Twitter if you want more up to date ish ness.... haha Otherwise, I'll be back next Friday.

Gone for a week

Table, originally uploaded by lf979883.

Hey folks, sorry I didn't announce it but I was totally absent last weekend. I was planning on rocking Dippikill (Up in Warrensburg) with an 80s set, then posting the playlist here, but I didn't have the time to throw something together.
The weekend was fun, but I lost a LOT of school work time, plus I ate so unhealthily! (You don't even know... cooking bacon then toasting a bagel in the bacon grease is the tip of this iceberg)
Anyway, I'll be back next week... There are a few more photos from the trip on my Flickr page. I'll see you all (well, I won't SEE you) Friday November 14! My last kitchen as a 20 year old. Wild!
Later

Halloween Kitchen

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

The Goth Kitchen was sort of weird: My playlist (pictured above) was so awesome, and I felt like the whole program went off without a single glitch... But for some reason Halloween is just one of those holidays I never seem to have too much fun on. Coincidence or something else, I dunno - It seems like a great time! Maybe it's the costumes.
This chicken was there to scream a bloodcurdling scream into the mic! Andrew was there to play mad Al Jourgensen afterward! Brittany and Eric were there after that to play newer Halloween-type stuff! Danielle was there for moral support!

After a short hiatus and just overall strangeness in scheduling over the last month or so, it seems that next week's show will be a return to the old times: New Wave, Post Punk, Pop, and all the rest that made the 80s way cool.

Thanks to all the listeners and requests, y'all held it together like always.
