SCHEPISISHNESS

What's up Albany? (HAHA),
Friday's edition of the Kitchen was spectacular. This was because in addition to the fact that I had a great round of tracks lined up, I was paid a visit from Engineer, Production Director, all-around polymath of WCDB, "DJ And-a-half" AKA Joe Schepis. He came through for the 30th anniversary celebration, but as opportunities aligned decided to come by one more time this semester to improve the station a bit and co-host programs with myself (8p-10p) and the Insufflator afterward (10p-12a). So, in between fixing our phone unit which was severely out of phase, dude gave me some tracks to play and co-hosted my show, helping make this maybe my favorite show of the semester. Thanks Joe! Two and a half DJs are better than one.

The fire alarm went off earlier in the day and Joe, Jared, Austin and I stood outside for maybe 20 minutes while I was holding out on letting everyone know we could just go inside whenever we wanted

We went over to Eastman tower before the show to take a look at the heart of the station, the transmitter, processor and exciter:

Joe took this one... Had to include it, I love pictures of elevator control panels

There was a lightbulb drive goin on goin on, what's with that exactly?

Joe looks a little David Byrne ca. "Feelings"- era here I think, so I had to spin some Heads:

We went through a few old playlists of mine... You know you've got a lot on your head when you write what you'll be doing after the show, on the playlist CD:

I'm going back and forth over whether I'll do my show next week... I mean, it WILL BE the day after Thanksgiving... Maybe I'll bring some schoolwork to the station and do some, then go on at 8. We'll see. I probably will. See you next Friday!
THANKS AGAIN JOE YOU DA MAN FO REAL REAL

Leon won't think this is any big deal, but what he didn't tell you is that all during his show, me and Ryan (the Engineer of Engineers) had taken the console apart to fix the phone channel. There was a soldering iron and tools and pins and wires on all the flat surfaces in the studio. At one point we even had the CD players facing away from the DJ chair. Leon still did the show without missing a beat. And he can cue up records without hearing them! (How was it you said that worked? They SMELL cued?)

Leon, it was great to be on the show with you. We should do it again. You may not be DJ and a Half, but you definitely are some fraction greater than 1.0.
